Jammin’ Guitar

From the craft box you will need:

  • Box (Adult sized shoe box, cigar box...etc)
  • Four to six Rubber bands with various widths
  • Toothpicks
  • Popsicle sticks (Optional)
  • Glue/Tape
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Shells, stickers, glitter for decorating
  • Construction paper to cover the box (optional)
  • Paint and paint brushes (Optional)

How to:

  • Tape lid on to your box.
  • Cover your box with construction or wrapping paper and secure with tape or glue.
  • Or, paint the box. (Just have an adult help to avoid spills.)
  • Sprinkle with glitter, embellish with stickers, draw with markers, or glue on beach finds.
  • After decorating, draw a large oval in the center of the top of the box. Ask an adult cut out the hole with scissors.
  • Pull rubber bands in place lengthwise around your box. Choose assorted rubber band widths to create different pitches.
  • If rubber bands need to be tightened, twist around a toothpick and tape to the bottom of your box.
  • To create frets, stack two popsicle sticks together and glue. Glue popsicle sticks under rubber bands on top of box, and space them out evenly.

You’re ready to rock!
